FMW – Invitation to Join Board of Directors

FMW invites its members, friends and volunteers to consider joining the Board of Directors of the FEDERATION OF MUSLIM WOMEN.

About the FMW

Formed in 1999 as a not-for-profit organization, the Federation of Muslim Women (FMW) works with women, health and social service providers,community organizations and others to advocate on behalf of Muslim and other minority women in Canada. For more information about FMW please visit our website at http://www.fmw.org

Our mission is to empower women and children through raising awareness andeducation to ensure the dignity and worth of all people.

FMW isseeking to add to its Board of Directors passionate volunteers who share an interest and commitment to enhance FMW role in  advocating for women’s rights.   

The Board of Directors role is to:

  • Direct the organization according to its by-laws
  • Develop planning strategies and ensure their implementation
  • Apply for funding for various projects
  • Keep abreast of community needs, health and social trends
  • Represent and interpret FMW to the public, community organizations and governemnt agencies

A Board member’s responsibility is to:

  • Commit to a one year term
  • Prepare for, attend, and actively participate in board meetings. Meetings are held approximately every 6 weeks
  • Serve in a volunteer capacity, without remuneration or profit.

Women with experience in community development and capacity building are encouraged to apply. Interested individuals are asked to submit their resumes to info@fmw.org by August 5, 2011. Nominations and elections will take place at the AGM in September 2011.


Feed the Streets – An FMW Initiative

Islam teaches humanity to help the needy and lei ss fortunate. Following the path of the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him), we would like to invite you to help FMW make the Feed the Streets event a success during the auspicious month of Ramadan.
When: August 2011 (Ramadan)

Where/Drop off location: To be disclosed to volunteers and donors who express interest

  

Goal: Sandwich, Tim Hortons coffee, juice, fruit, cereal bar, and bottle of water.

In the past, we’ve found this event to be a lovely bonding experience for us, and we’ve enjoyed having youth help out with the sandwich-making.


  
Badminton for women 50 and over
Brought to you by, Muslim Seniors Circle

Regular physical activity is important for you as you age. It helps maintain strength, flexibility, balance, and coordination, and can help reduce the risk of falls. Being physically active not only strengthens your body, it also makes you feel good about yourself.
 
 When:       Every Wednesday evenings at 7pm  

Where:      ISNA, 2200 South Sheridan Way, Mississauga, ON L5J 2M4

 

Have fun while getting physically active. 
Join the badminton program for women organized by the Muslim Seniors Circle.

Muslim men and women 55 and over meet at ISNA after salat al Jum’a on the first Friday of every month for refreshments, socialization and interesting talks. No membership required to attend. Project Ramadan 1430 AH There are over 6,000 families which are registered users of the food bank at the Muslim Welfare Centre each month. Ramadan is soon approaching and “Project Ramadan” is creating IFTAR BASKETS that will contain all of the necessities that a fasting family will require during the month of Ramadan. Each basket will be donated to the Muslim Welfare Centre of Toronto which will distribute them to Muslim families during the first week of Ramadan. HOW CAN YOU HELP?
